The Full Story
About the Big Outdoors experience
We offer a different, and we believe richer, summer camp experience to our competitors, but we do it at a lower price, as much as 30% less
Traditional Private school camps
-
Hundreds of children - impersonal
-
high proportion of pointless or baby-sitting type activities
-
Not very inclusive, some children can withdraw from participating without really being noticed
-
Rely heavily on traditional sporting activities which can be done with large groups
-
Often use a number of inexperienced young students or older pupils from the school to manage or help manage the activities and pastoral care. Generally the majority of the school's regular teachers are on holiday and not involved.
-
Little or no learning opportunities.
-
Occur within a built or highly managed environment. Limited engagement with the natural world.
-
Mass catering and a rigid inflexible schedule
-
Run at worst - simply for profit. At best they are a marketing ploy for the school.
-
Expensive
Big Outdoors camps
-
9 to 30 children - we will know all their names in a day or two
-
Every activity is a high quality outdoor experience and learning opportunity
-
We will notice and make sure everyone is fully involved and will modify activities if needed to achieve this.
-
Unique activities devised through our in-depth knowledge of the area we are working in
-
We will only use our regular staff who are highly trained and experienced in managing groups safely in these activities.
-
Every day brings open ended, hands on learning opportunities - for us as well as the kids. We will learn together
-
Even in the resort we are surrounded by nature.
-
our staff prepare nutritious, tasty meals and we eat and work in a family type setting. The program is flexible adapting to the weather and the needs of the children
-
Sure we want a modest profit, but that is not the main reason we run the camp. We genuinely enjoy being in the wild with your children. The experience of the kids is our first priority
-
Still expensive but at least 25% less than most of the competition - and we believe good value for the money.
